Posted on March 15, 2011

In today's market it is important to maximize the return on your investment when updating your home or getting it ready to sell. But which upgrades will be most worthwhile and give you the best return? Here is our list of the top 8 home upgrades that will reward you with the greatest return for your time and investment.

1.) Painting - Most homes these days are built as a blank canvas. When the home is new, the walls are white the trim is white, nothing really stands out. In an older home, chances are the walls or exterior may look tired from time and wear. You probably have your fair share of nicks, scuffs, fading from the sun, peeling and hand prints. Either case has little appeal to any potential buyers.

Updating the exterior paint on your home will increase your curb appeal and make your home stand out in the neighborhood. Updating the interior paint will bring life to those old walls and is a great way to provide dramatic results with a relatively small investment. Painting your trim white helps make it stand out while offering a modern look. Sticking with earth tones such as pale yellow or tan for your walls is recommended as to not overwhelm any potential buyers.

The overall goal is to update the look and feel of your home while also trying to make it appeal to as many people as possible. If you are unsure of your painting abilities or have trouble making those perfect lines at the ceiling or around trim you might consider hiring a professional. It can be money well spent.

2.) Adding Siding - If you have older siding on your home that is cracking, splitting, or rotting, adding new siding is a must. The best bang for your buck currently is fiber-cement siding which is durable, will stand up to the elements and looks great when installed properly. Read more...

Ways For Decorating a Narrow and a Long Hallway

Posted on February 4, 2011

Start working from the ends at first- as a hallway is present in your house, you might have some reason to move along that every day. Then, why not give ourselves a cue that the need is not far off. A very simple thing that can be done is placing a small table near the hallway. On that you can keep a flower vase or a plant. The curiosity a person has in order to observe what there is at the end of the hallway draws him to go forward. Painting the walls is also a good option at the end side of the hallway with darker colors as compared to the rest of the hallway. This indicates that you have reached almost its end.

o Along the way- as you apply a darker color scheme by the end of your hallway, then you will have to make use of light shades throughout its way. Always make sure that the light shades that you select are not very close to the end wall's color.

o Floor coverings- after implementing the first two ideas, it's time to have a look at the floor of the hallway. What you are supposed to do is to cease the progress of an individual walking in the hallway. For the sake, you might add some fun elements tiles or non-gridded materials of flooring system. You can even make use of a low pile carpet. It will act as a maze assuming the person in space. Definitely this will inhibit and make the individual walk forward. Read more...

I am constantly getting compliments from neighbors and friends, and I even have people I don't know asking me to be a front yard landscaping consultant for them! But it wasn't always this way. It really wasn't.

For years I struggled with the fact that my front yard, and surrounding areas looked shabby and boring. And in some cases, it even just flat out looked terrible. But what could I do? I didn't have any front yard landscaping ideas, and I certainly didn't know anything about gardening. Well everything changed on day when I overheard my neighbor on the telephone. She was complaining to her girlfriend about how my property is an "eye sore" and how she wishes we would either clean up or move out!

I hated hearing it, because it hurt my feelings deeply, but I know it was true. And as a result I had a major epiphany, and decided to not only take this on as a personal project, but to find strategies to make this happen in the most affordable ways! What I learned over the next few years not only turned my drab boring front yard into a landscaping masterpiece, a piece of art, but it changed my life entirely as well. Read more...
